Mission
Minnesota Adaptive Sailing
provides opportunities for physically challenged individuals with or without
previous experience to sail in a controlled supportive environment.
Program
Minnesota Adaptive Sailing has
multiple specially equipped sailboats, a very stable floating dock permitting safe
transfer to and from sailboats and an enthusiastic experienced volunteer staff.
Landside verbal, written and hands-on instruction prepare students with a
sailing orientation, terminology, equipment and boat parts, sailing
fundamentals, knot tying and most of all safety near and on the water. The
boats are very stable both at the dock and under sail. Students are provided
instruction by experienced volunteer sailors at appropriate individual levels
and supervised by Courage Center staff. Students are in continuous electronic
voice communication from shore while underway with a motorized safety boat
within feet of the sailboat at all times. Patience and support are emphasized
for a rewarding and confidence-building experience with accessible parking and facilities
close by.
Formal Schedule
Each and every Monday evening,
independent of weather conditions,
May thru September,

Lake Harriet is located at 42nd Street and Penn
Avenue in South Minneapolis. The sailing pavilion and gathering point picnic
table are at the North end of the lake, just East of the band shell at the base
